Some of the key highlights for the 2003-04 financial year include:
- completion, as planned, of 1112 of the 1115 projects in the $240m Statewide Blackspot Program
- installation of 75 per cent of sites in the Government's School Speed Zones program to reduce speed limits outside every primary and secondary school in the State. School speed zones are now in place across the entire State with more than 2500 school speed zones delivered to Victorian schools at the end of November 2004.
- completion of the Hallam Bypass, $10m under budget and 17 months early
- the signing of a landmark agreement with the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative to formalise an ongoing partnership for road system development in north central Victoria
- on behalf of the Government, coordinated the development of the Road Management Act 2004 – the most significant reform of road management legislation in over 50 years
- management of Victoria’s road safety program in conjunction with the Victoria Police, the Transport Accident Commission and the Department of Justice. This resulted in the lowest annual road toll since 1951, when comprehensive records began.
