Industry Based Learning

Industry-Based Learning (IBL) is a program offered at undergraduate level in which students can obtain paid employment in an area related to their studies. IBL is offered at many Universities throughout Australia and is known by many names, including Cooperative Education and Sandwich Year. IBL placements are for either 6 or 12 months.

VicRoads supports IBL by offering students the opportunity to put theory into practice while sampling working life at VicRoads.

Who is eligible for IBL at VicRoads?
VicRoads may offer IBL placements to students studying civil engineering degrees.

Students who are currently undertaking the third year of a four Engineering degree are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to those with a course requirement for IBL.

Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or permanent residency is a prerequisite.

Is IBL a paid placement?
Yes, IBL is a paid placement at VicRoads. The commencement wage is $32,652 per annum (or pro-rata for 6 month placements)

Is the placement full-time?
Placements are offered as full-time positions for either 6 or 12 months.

When does VicRoads offer IBL placements?
Generally students would commence theirĀ IBL placement in January or July.

In which locations can IBL students work in?
Applications are accepted from students willing to work within metropolitan Melbourne or rural Victorian offices (Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Benalla and Traralgon).

What happens when students complete IBL?
Upon completion of a placement, students return to university.
