VicRoads Surveillance Officer Cadetship Program involves rotations through various VicRoads offices across Victoria, providing hands on experience in the surveillance of road and bridge construction and maintenance works.
Our aim is to develop cadets with a range of construction and maintenance skills to enable them to be considered for Surveillance Officer/Manager vacancies in VicRoads.
Cadets participate in four 6-month rotations, including mini rotations (1-2 weeks) in specialist departments, which will be assigned based on development needs and business opportunities. These rotations may be in any metropolitan or rural VicRoads office.
Relevant training courses is provided and experienced Surveillance Managers are assigned as mentors.The full-time program will run for 2 years, starting in January 2012. Successful completion of the Program assures appointment to an ongoing position.Surveillance Cadets will be paid $42,659 p.a. plus 9% superannuation (note an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement is currently being negotiated which will result in an increase to this salary for 2012).During the Program, cadets will be exposed to a wide range of development opportunities, and will take part in numerous activities, including:

Surveillance and audit of road and bridge construction projects and traffic signal installation

Participation in the risk management process

Surveillance and management of worksite traffic management

Preparation and management of minor works
-
Contract management and administration
-
Conducting risk-based field surveillance of assigned works under quality assured contracts

Managing the resolution of issues on site with contractor

Managing relationships and liaison with landowners, service authorities and other relevant stakeholders
Successful completion of either:
- Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering,
- Advanced Certificate of Works Management [Municipal and Roads],
- Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision;
- Certificate III in Civil Construction (Relevant Stream); or
- an appropriate Building and Construction (Certificate III or IV)
or have practical road construction/maintenance experience.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency
- a current driver licence
