Prosecution and Infringement Notice Advice

What do I do if I get a summons?

  • A Summons Information Sheet and a Pre-hearing Disclosure Information Sheet are attached to the summons. These sheets provide information to explain your legal obligations and rights. The summons includes telephone numbers for the court and VicRoads legal contractor.


What do I do if I get an Infringement Notice?

  • If you have been issued with a Roads Corporation Infringement Notice by a VicRoads officer, information on the back of the Infringement Notice explains the options available. You can either pay the fine or elect to have the matter heard in court by completing the notice of objection on the back of the Infringement Notice.
  • If you choose to pay the fine, the options for payment are as follows:

    By mail

    Send the notice with a cheque or Money Order, made payable to:

    DO NOT SEND YOUR PAYMENT DIRECTLY TO THE ROADS CORPORATION (VICROADS)

    In person

    Payment can be made at:

    Civic Compliance Victoria, Level 1, 277 William Street Melbourne, between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday (except public holidays). Credit card and EFTPOS payment facilities are available.

    If you have lost your Infringement Notice and you

      • want to pay the fine or,
      • want to know if you are eligible to pay the fine under a payment plan or,
      • you wish to contest the matter ie have it heard in court,

  • An Infringement Notice and Courtesy Letter Information Leaflet is also available from Victoria Legal Aid, Community Advice Bureaus, Legal and Financial Centres and most Metropolitan Magistrates' Courts.

    Internal Review

    You, or a person acting on your behalf, may apply to have the issue of the Notice reviewed. If you choose to do so, please send your written application to:

    The application must state the grounds on which the decision should be reviewed, and must include your current address so you can be notified of the outcome of the decision.

    You may only make one application for review in respect of the Infringement Notice.

    Note: Applications will not be accepted if the Infringement Notice is in respect of an infringement offence to which the provisions of the following apply:

    - sections 89A to 89D of the Road Safety Act 1986;

    - section 215C of the Transport Act 1983; and

    - sections 61A and 61B of the Marine Act 1988.
