Q. I want to get a car learner permit. What do I need to do?
A.
You will need to study the Road to Solo Driving handbook and then make a booking by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 to take a knowledge test based on our road rules and driver responsibilities. Find out more

Q. I want to get my probationary car licence. What do I need to do?
A.
Once you have held your learner permit for the minimum time, and have recorded at least 120 hours of driving including ten hours at night (if you are under 21 years of age), you need to call us on 13 11 71 to make an appointment for a hazard perception test and a driving test. Find out more.

Q. I want to get my motorcycle licence. How can I get some training before I go for the test?
A. You can go to any of the VicRoads accredited training providers. There you can have training and take the learner permit and licence tests. Find out more.

Q. How do I get my heavy vehicle licence? I want to do some training before I go for the test.
A.
You can go to any VicRoads accredited training provider. They will provide training and take your heavy vehicle licence test. Find out more.

Q. I have moved address. How can I change my address on my licence and vehicle registration?
A.
You can change your address online. It is important that you let us know within 14 days of changing your address. It is actually an offence if you fail to inform us. Q. My driver licence is due for renewal. How can I renew my licence?
A.
Details of how to renew your driver licence is explained on the renewal notice and enclosed brochure. If you have not received your renewal notice, it maybe due to not informing us of your new address. Change your address now.You can also renew your licence by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 or by attending a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. Find out more.

Q. I need to transfer my interstate licence to a Victorian licence. What do I need to do?
A.
If you hold a licence from interstate or New Zealand and it is current or expired by less than 5 years, you will not be required to do a test to change it over. You will need to make an appointment and attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to change your licence over to Victorian. Find out more.

Q. I'm in Victoria on holidays. Can I use my overseas licence to drive in Victoria?
A.
Yes you can. If you are on a temporary visa, you can drive in Victoria for an indefinite period as long as your licence is current and in English. If you are on a permanent visa, you can drive in Victoria for a period of 3 months on your overseas licence and then you must convert it to a Victorian licence. Find out more.

Q. I want to get a boat licence. What do I need to do?
A.
You need to get the Victorian Recreational Boating Safety Handbook from your local newsagent, bookstore or VicRoads Customer Service Centre. Once you have studued the book, you can make an appointment to do the test at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. Find out more.

Q. I have misplaced my driver licence. How can I get it replaced?
A.
You can call VicRoads on 13 11 71 and pay by credit card for a replacement licence or attend any VicRoads Customer Service Centre. The new licence will then be mailed to you. Find out more.

Q. I just received a letter informing me of my demerit points. How does the demerit points system work?
A.
You can attract demerit points for a range of traffic realted offences including speeding, talking on a mobile phone and running a red light. If you are a fully licensed driver and you accumulate 12 demerit points over any three year period, your licence can be suspended. If you are a learner or probationary driver and you accumulate five points in a twelve month period, your licence or permit can be suspended. Find out more

Q. I am applying for a car learner permit. Which Evidence of identity documents are accepted by VicRoads?
A.
To apply for a car learner permit you must supply one primary evidence document such as a birth certificate or passport, one secondary evidence document which confirms the use of your name in the community (eg. utility bill or bank statement etc.). Q. My vehicle registration is about to expire. How can I renew the registration of my car?
A.
Details of how to renew your vehicle registration are listed on your renwal notice. If you have not received your renewal notice, it maybe due to not informing us of your new address. Change your address now. You can renew your vehicle registration online on the VicRoads website, attending any Australia Post outlet or by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71. Find out more.

Q. I want to sell my car. What do I need to do?
A.
You can sell your car in two different ways. With a Roadworthy Certificate or by cancelling the registration and removing the number plates. Find out more.

Q. I'm interested in buying number plates. What type of plates can I get?
A.
There are a number of different number plates available. You can browse, check availability and the cost of number plates at www.vplates.com.au.

Q. I just bought a car from the auctions. It's unregistered. How can I get it back home?
A.
You can purchase an Unregistered Vehicle Permit from the auction house or from VicRoads by calling 13 11 71 which will allow you to drive the vehicle home once you have purchased it. Find out more.

Q. I have moved to Victoria from interstate and I want to transfer the registration of my car to Victorian. What do I need to do?
A.
It is an offence if you are a permanent resident of Victoria and you do not transfer the vehicle registration to Victorian. You must change the registration of your vehicle to Victorian immediatley once you are a permament resident of Victoria. Find out more.

Q. I had the windscreen replaced on my car. I need a new registration label. How can I get another one?
A.
You can order a replacement label for $13.80 by either calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 or by attending a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. Find out more.

Q. I now receive the aged pension and have bought a car registered in my name. How can I apply for a concession on my vehicle registration?
A. You can apply for a concession on your vehicle registration by completing the Registrations Concession form available online, by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 or by attending a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. Find out more.

Q. I just bought a second hand car and the registration has been cancelled. How do I go about re registering the car in my name?
A.
You will need to make an appointment at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre where you will need to present the car for inspection as well as provide the appropriate evidence of identity and ownership as well as pay the relevant fees. Find out more. 

Q. My father recently passed away and his registered vehicle is included in the will which states it is to be transferred to me. What do I need to do?
A.
The requirements for transferring a vehicle from a deceased estate vary depending on who the vehicle is being transferred to and whether a will is present. Find out more. 

Q. I want to buy a second hand car privately this weekend. I want to make sure the car isn't stolen or there is any finance owing on it. What type of check can I do before I buy the car?
A.
You can check vehicle details including if the vehicle has been recorded as stolen, written off and if there is any finance owing on the vehicle by purchasing a Vehicle Information Package (VIP). Purchase a Vehicle Information Package.
