Heavy vehicle knowledge test

You will have to pass a truck or bus knowledge test as part of your heavy vehicle test. The other component of the test is the heavy vehicle driving test. You have to pass both components of the test to get your heavy vehicle licence.

You must be at least 18 years of age to do this knowledge test (however, you must hold a lower class of heavy vehicle licence before you can progress to a higher level, see types of licences for more information about obtaining your heavy vehicle licence). If you already have an Australian or New Zealand heavy vehicle licence, and you want to get a higher category of licence, you will not have to do another knowledge test.
