Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council

The Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council (VRFAC) is an advisory body that provides advice to VicRoads on the development, planning, regulation and operation of road freight services in Victoria. It comprises members from industry and government.

Terms of Reference

The Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council shall provide a broadly based forum for expression and distillation of transport industry stakeholder opinion on issues affecting the Victorian road freight industry. Its role is to provide advice to VicRoads on the development, planning, regulation and operation of road freight services in Victoria within the context of the overall national and federal scene, with particular reference to:

  • Road transport efficiency;
  • Safety; and
  • Community and environmental issues.

Focus of Activities

The Council will concentrate on strategy, policy and regulatory development, rather than on particular local or regional issues. It will draw on various sources so that advice reflects consideration of a broad range of interests. It will:

  • Take a statewide view on strategic issues of relevance to all freight sectors with road transport as an inter-connecting activity;
  • Provide a forum for consultation, exchange of information and ideas between the freight industry, Government agencies and departments, and the community;
  • Provide advice in relation to strategic, policy or regulatory problems faced by the road freight transport chain; and
  • Assist with the resolution of policy matters and key issues from the activities of the Truck Operations Committee and the Enforcement Liaison Committee.

Meetings

Four meetings per year, to be conducted in Committee.

Forums

A series of road freight forums (generally consisting of five forums) to be held once a year for the purpose of:

  • Providing information to industry and other stakeholders on key heavy vehicle reform initiatives, including on the work of the Council; and
  • Identifying key road freight issues.
