The holder of a driver licence is responsible for ensuring the licence remains current.
You can renew your licence according to the following:

| 1. Licence expired by 6 months or less. |
- Payment of licence fee. A new photo will be taken if the old photo is more than five years old. The new expiry date will be calculated from the previous expiry date

| 2. Licence expired by more than 6 months but by no more than five (5) years. |
- Payment of licence fee. A new photo will be taken. The new expiry date will be calculated from the date of renewal.

| 3. Licence expired (by over 5 years) and the holder of a current or expired for up to or less than 5 years overseas licence. |
- Payment of licence fee. A new photo will be taken. The new expiry date will be calculated from the date of renewal

| 4. If the licence has expired by more than 5 years and no current interstate or overseas licence is held. |
- Knowledge test
- Drive test
- Payment of licence fee on completion of tests.

| 5. Motor car licence expired by more than 5 years, and the holder of a current or expired for up to or less than five (5) years interstate motor cycle licence. |
- Drive test
- Payment of licence fee on completion of test.

You can renew your licence by calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 Mon-Fri 8.30am to 5pm, Sat 8.30am - 2pm and paying by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or attending a VicRoads Customer Service Centre or Licence Photo Point.
You can call VicRoads on 13 11 71 Mon - Fri 8.30am to 5pm, Sat 8.30am - 2pm and pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) to renew your licence. You will then be sent a renewal notice which you must take into a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to have a new photo taken.
Alternatively, you can pay at the VicRoads Customer Service Centre by cash, cheque, money order, credit card or EFTPOS and then have your photo taken.
You will need to make an appointment for a test by:
- calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 (Mon - Fri 8.30am - 5pm, Sat 8.30am - 2pm). You can pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard); OR
- visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. You can pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card.
If you want to change an appointment you will be required to pay another appointment fee. The test fee can be transferred to a new time (or refunded if the test is cancelled) if 24 hours notice is given.
When you attend the customer service centre, you will need to:
- provide evidence of identity (see below)
- undertake any required tests
- pay the licence fee
- have a new photo taken.

- Practical drive test
- Licence - 10 years or 3 years.
There are no fee concessions for licence fees.
If you can not provide your expired licence as evidence of identity you will need to provide other original evidence of identity documents.
If you are attending a VicRoads office you will need to provide multiple evidence of identity documents of:
- one primary evidence document (eg. Australian birth certificate or passport)
- one secondary evidence document (eg Medicare card, credit/debit account card, student identity card, bank statement)
- evidence of residence (if not indicated in the primary or secondary documents).
One of these documents must have your signature on it.
