When you apply to get your learner permit or a licence for the first time you will be required to complete a test. The type of test that you need to do will vary depending on the learner permit or licence you are applying for.
In Victoria you will be required to pass the following tests to get your learner permit:
- an eyesight test
- a computer based road law knowledge test
To progress to a car licence, you will need to pass the following tests:
- eyesight test
- a computer hazard perception test
- on road driving test
Before taking any of these tests you should study the Road to Solo Driving handbook. This handbook can be purchased at any VicRoads office in a number of languages or you can view the handbook online (English version only). You should also test yourself using the online practice licence tests.
You will also need to pass the relevant tests to get a motorcycle licence, heavy vehicle licence and boat licence.
