A Licence or learner permit can be cancelled or suspended for different reasons. These include traffic offences, drink driving or medical reasons.
A licence or learner permit can also be suspended due to unpaid fines as directed by the Sheriff's Office (refer to the Sheriff's Office sanctions webpage for more information).
If a licence or permit is cancelled, a new licence or permit will have to be reissued and the old licence or permit is voided. That is, you will need to pay another fee to have the new licence issued. Furthermore, you may also have to satisfy certain relicensing requirements before you get your licence back. The cancelled licence must be sent into VicRoads.
If a licence is suspended, the original licence must be sent into VicRoads and that same licence will be sent back to you once the suspension has finished. You will not have to pay any fees to get your licence back.
