If you are a Victorian resident temporarily interstate or overseas, you can still renew your driver licence or permit or have it replaced because it was lost or stolen.
If VicRoads holds a recent digitalised image of you (this will be indicated on your licence renewal notice) you can renew or replace a licence or permit by phone, mail or BPAY. If VicRoads does NOT hold a recent digitalised image you will be required to send a completed Photo Kit form to VicRoads with your credit card details or cheque to:

- BPAY To use BPAY please call your participating financial institution to make a payment. (You can not use BPAY for a replacement of a licence/permit).
The new licence or learner permit will be sent to the current address you have registered with VicRoads unless otherwise specified. Please allow two to four weeks for delivery if you have requested your new licence to be mailed overseas.
If you do not renew your licence on time, your licence will expire. Depending on your licence status, different requirements will apply for renewing an expired licence.
If you have a Victorian licence and wish to drive while you are overseas, you may be able to apply for an International Driving Permit from an RACV store. This permit will allow you to drive in selected countries which recognise the International Driving Permit.
For countries which do not recognise the international driving permit, you will need to contact the local driver licensing authority in the country you are visiting to determine if you need to obtain a special licence to drive in that country.
If you need to get a licence overseas, you may need to provide the local driver licensing authority with the first issue date of your Victorian licence.
VicRoads can provide you with this information. The fee for obtaining the first issue date is dependent on when your Victorian licence was first issued:
- if your first issue date is on or after 1 November 1984 a search fee of $7.60 applies
- if your first issue date is before 1 November 1984 a history search fee of $14.50 applies
Call VicRoads on 0011 61 3 9854 2666 during business hours to order a letter with your licence first issue date. You can pay by credit card (Mastercard or Visa).
