Tulla Sydney Alliance

In July 2009, a partnership between VicRoads, Thiess, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) and Hyder, referred to as the Tulla Sydney Alliance, was created to deliver the first section of the M80 Ring Road Upgrade between east of the Calder Freeway and Sydney Road.

Calder Freeway to Melrose Drive
M80 Ring Road at Tullamarine Freeway interchange
Tullamarine Freeway to Pascoe Vale Road
Pascoe Vale Road to Sydney Road

Project summary

  • More lanes to make at least three in each direction and up to six lanes between some interchanges
  • New entry ramp for Tullamarine Freeway city bound traffic heading to M80 Ring Road Altona bound
  • Design changes to some existing ramps to improve safety
  • A new bridge over Moonee Ponds Creek for Greensborough bound traffic
  • Widening Sydney Road between north of Camp Road / Mahoneys Road to Anderson Road, Fawkner.
  • Traffic lights on entry ramps at Airport Drive, Melrose Drive, Pascoe Vale Road and Sydney Road
  • Overhead electronic signs to show speed limits and lane availability
  • Electronic on-road message boards
  • Planting and feature walls creating a new look and feel to the road.

The section between Calder Freeway and Sydney Road is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
