The third section of the M80 Ring Road to be upgraded is from Edgars Road to Plenty Road in Bundoora. The contract for these works has been awarded to Fulton Hogan. Major construction works are expected to commence early 2012 and be completed by mid 2014.
Improvements will include:
- Building an additional lane in each direction creating three lanes each way plus a fourth lane between interchanges
- Bridge widening and strengthening to carry the additional lanes
- Resurfacing works to create a safer driving environment
- Traffic lights on entry ramps
- Overhead electronic signs to communicate speed limits and lane availability
- Electronic on-road message boards
- Planting and feature walls, creating a new look and feel to the road.

Dalton Road to Plenty Road
In June, traffic will be shifted towards the outsides of the freeway in each direction to allow space to build new lanes in the centre. Construction in this section is expected to begin before summer.
Follow the Yellow Lines
As part of these traffic changes, yellow line marking will be in place Altona bound. This is part of a 12 month trial VicRoads is running to improve safety around road works by making drivers more aware they are in a roadwork zone and improve lane visibility, particularly in the wet. The white lines will still be visible but drivers must stay within the yellow lanes and obey the yellow lines in this area.
Bridges
Building new lanes in the centre of the Ring Road over High Street and Dalton Road has begun and a worksite has been set up on High Street next to the railway and on Dalton Road in the centre of road. To safely accommodate the work area, lanes have been changed on both roads. These changes will be in place for approximately three months until early August.
During these works, there may be some noise and vibration from the drilling under the bridge area and the majority of these works will be done during the day between 7am and 6pm. Some night works will be required and residents and businesses will be notified in advance.
Works may be delayed due to wet weather conditions.
