Ongoing changed conditions
Changed traffic conditions are in place on the M80 Ring Road between Tilburn Road and Sunshine Avenue, Calder Freeway and Sydney Road and Edgars Road and Dalton Road:

  • Speed limits reduced in both directions
  • Concrete barriers installed to provide protection for work zones
  • No emergency lanes.

Changed traffic conditions are in place on Furlong Road and St Albans Road under the M80 Ring Road:

  • Reduced number of lanes & width
  • Speed limits reduced to 40km/h in both directions.

Changed traffic conditions are in place on Western Highway/Ballarat Road under the M80 Ring Road:

  • Reduced lane width
  • Right turn lane onto the M80 in both directions has been moved
  • Speed limits reduced to 60km/h in both directions.

Changed traffic conditions are in place on High Street, Thomastown under the M80 Ring Road:

    • Two lanes reduced to one lane in each direction
    • Right turn from High Street southbound to Austarc Avenue is prohibited
    • Speed limit reduced to 40km/h in both directions.
The M80 Upgrade works will involve more changes to traffic conditions. Drivers are encouraged to plan their trips in advance and check the real-time travel and road conditions.

For information about planned roadworks on connecting freeways, including CityLink visit the roadworks & planned events page.

VicRoads works with Department of Justice, Victoria Police and VicRoads Transport Safety Services (TSS) to enforce the roadwork speed limits on worksites throughout Victoria, including the M80 Ring Road Upgrade. The reduced roadwork speed limit continues to apply when workers are not on site because of the changed traffic conditions for drivers such as reduced clearance to concrete barriers, reduced sight distances and no shoulders or emergency stopping lanes.

VicRoads appreciate your patience as we improve one of Melbourne's key transport corridors.
