If you have a vehicle(s) which requires IAP, follow the steps below to get started.

  1. Complete the IAP Information Request form [PDF,114KB 1pp] and email it to iap@roads.vic.gov.au.
  2. Engage a certified IAP Service Provider
  3. Following receipt of the IAP Information Request form, VicRoads will issue an Interim Intelligent Access Condition (IAC)* for your vehicle, via email. If you list your chosen IAP Service Provider, VicRoads will send the Interim IAC directly to that company, with a copy to you (via email).  If you do not list your IAP Service Provider, the Interim IAC will be emailed directly to you.  In this case, please forward this on to your chosen IAP Service Provider as soon as possible. This will enable your IAP Service Provider to establish monitoring of the vehicle.
  4. Please ensure that your chosen IAP Service Provider issues an IAP Compliance Certificate[PDF,116KB, 1pp], once monitoring is successfully established for the vehicle. The certificate should be filled out electronically by the IAP Service Provider and emailed to yourself and VicRoads.
  5. Upon receipt of the IAP Compliance Certificate, you may apply for an Over Dimensional and Mass Permit, using the VicRoads Over Dimensional and Mass Permit Application [PDF, 39KB]. Please supply a copy of your IAP Compliance Certificate with your permit application. The Permits office cannot issue a permit for a vehicle which requires IAP, without proof that IAP has been successfully installed.
  6. VicRoads will then issue a permit for the vehicle, with IAP as a condition of access. You may then operate the vehicle on the Victorian road network in accordance with the conditions of access specified in the Permit.
  7. Your vehicle will be monitored by your IAP Service Provider and VicRoads will receive reports if any non-compliances occur. Please keep a record of any non-compliances you are aware of eg. the vehicle went off route due to roadworks, so you can explain these to VicRaods if required.

Enquiries regarding IAP in Victoria should be emailed to iap@roads.vic.gov.au or contact VicRoads on 13 11 71.

* Interim IAC (Intelligent Access Condition): The document issued by VicRoads which indicates its intention to grant an IAC, contingent on the transport operator engaging an IAP Service Provider.
