Speed limit reduced on Bolte Bridge as part of $1.39 billion Monash-CityLink- West Gate upgrade

Motorists are advised that the speed limit on the Bolte Bridge will reduced to 80 km/h to facilitate works as part of the Monash-CityLink-West Gate (M1) upgrade.

The new 80k limit will commence just after the Footscray Road off-ramp on the southbound carriageway (heading towards Bolte Bridge). The limit will remain at 80km/h through to the West Gate Freeway (which is already at 80km/h).

VicRoads and the Monash-CityLink-West Gate Alliance thank motorists for their patience while the works are underway.

Fog and rain conditions

Motorists are advised to drive with caution amid foggy and/or rainy conditions.

VicRoads reminds drivers to use their fog lights and allow extra space between vehicles to ensure safe travel.

Icy Roads at Macedon-Woodend Road and Great Alpine Road

Motorists travelling on Macedon-Woodend Road and the Great Alpine Road are advised to drive with caution amid icy road conditions.

Motorists are also advised to drive with caution if heading to Lake Mountain or Mount Baw Baw as road conditions are icy.

Motorists travelling through Alpine or elevated areas of the state are advised to drive with caution with snowfall in some locations affecting road conditions.

Motorists heading to Mount Hotham, Falls Creek, Mount Buller or any of Victoria’s ski resorts should be aware that many of the peaks now require chains to be carried (all vehicles) or fitted to 2WD vehicles.

Please check the road conditions and relevant requirements for chains before leaving for Victoria’s snowfields.

Montague Street on ramp – city bound – FULL CLOSURE

As part of the $1.39 billion upgrade to the Monash-CityLink-West Gate freeway the onramp from Montague Street on to the West Gate Freeway will be fully closed.

The closure will be in place from Sunday 18 May, 10.00pm for approximately 18 months.

Details of the diversion routes are available at http://www.mcwupgrade.com.au and via onsite detour signage.

Telstra Dome events
People attending events at Telstra Dome will still be able to get to and from the facility via a detour route.

To access the detour route, motorists need to continue south on Montague Street past the closed on-ramp and turn left onto Normanby Road. The detour route will be clearly signposted and will involve travelling via Normanby Road, Clarendon Street, City Road and Power Street to access the M1 Freeway city-bound, or via Sturt Street to access Kings Way.

VicRoads recommends motorists familiarise themselves with the detour route before heading to the venue and leave a little extra time. Information will be available at Telstra Dome for those unsure of where to go. As an alternative people heading to Telstra Dome should also consider using public transport.
