VicRoads has just launched the next stage in the evolution of Real Time Traffic Website applications.
A new beginning…
VicRoads new real time traffic application, known as www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/trafficinfo, will allow anyone, anywhere, with an internet connection to accurately monitor travel times on freeways and highways.
So what’s new?
The new application is the next version of the real time traffic information application VicRoads has provided in the past. It builds upon the existing colour-coded freeway travel time functionality, giving users the freedom to:
- Monitor point to point travel times along the Eastern, Monash, West Gate and Tullamarine Freeways and the Western Ring Road;
- View traffic incidents and tow truck allocations across the Melbourne Metropolitan Area;
- Investigate all VicRoads road works across Victoria;
- Read the text on all of our Freeway Variable Message Signs (VMS); and
- Access other travel related sites such as Yarra Trams, Connex and Snow Fields Access.
Coming soon…
The news just gets better for commuters, with more functionality to be rolled out over the coming weeks.
Over the next two weeks some exciting improvements will be added to the site, with even more features to be progressively rolled out in the future.
So keep an eye out for some exciting new announcements.
2006 Commonwealth Games
One of the other features of the new application is the ability to provide future traffic information to commuters about up coming events, such as the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Grand Prix and other major events.
The application is currently providing information about event locations, road closures and traffic alerts relating to the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
