Road-based public transport and environmental initiatives are some of the ways we can improve the Victorian transport sector.
- VicRoads works with the Department of Transport, public transport operators and key stakeholders to improve road facilities for public transport.
We are creating a smoother, safer, faster and more reliable trip to entice more road users out of their cars and onto public transport.
This is through:
- improved on-road priority for buses and trams
- guidelines for road-based public transport priority treatments
- collaboration with the Victorian Road-Based Public Transport Advisory Council
- Our environment strategy guides us when we design, build and maintain the road network. This helps us protect, and where possible, enhance the environment.
We work with consultants, the community and other stakeholders on:
- reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- reducing noise impacts
- sustainability
- protecting cultural heritage
- native title
- water management
- protecting and maintaining biodiversity
- urban design and landscaping
