VicRoads environmental management requirements for each of these three stages of work are detailed in VicRoads Environmental Management Guidelines. The Guidelines provide practical guidance relating to environmental management in the development and maintenance of the road network. The Guidelines form part of VicRoads environmental management system.

A key requirement of VicRoads environmental management system is that all contractors must have an environmental management system accredited to international standards.
