The Bus Priority Program is part of the Victorian Government's Victorian Transport Plan announced in December 2008. A range of bus priority projects will be developed and delivered by VicRoads, with the aim of improving the reliability and travel times of buses.
These projects complement the bus priority projects being delivered under the SmartBus program.
Current projects being delivered by VicRoads as part of the Bus Priority Program:
New traffic signals
Traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Church Street and Vines Road in Hamlyn Heights. The traffic signals will provide priority for buses that travel through the intersection and improve safety for all road users.
New bus laneA city bound bus lane is proposed to be installed on City Road, between Clarendon Street and Queens Bridge Street in Southbank, to operate during the morning peak. In addition the traffic signals at the Clarendon Street intersection would be upgraded to provide bus priority.
New bus laneA city bound bus lane is proposed to be installed on City Road, between Boundary Street and Montague Street in South Melbourne, to operate during the morning peak. In addition the traffic signals at the Montague Street intersection would be upgraded to provide bus priority.
Bus improvements
Springvale Road, between Clarke Road and Heatherton Road in Springvale South, will be upgraded to improve bus priority.
Bus priority at traffic signals
The traffic signals at the intersection of St Georges Road and Holden Street in Fitzroy North will be upgraded to provide bus priority phases for east and west bound bus services on Holden Street.
