A vehicle must be registered to be operated on a public highway in Victoria. Regardless of the type of vehicle to be registered, the procedure and requirements are similar, only the fees will be different.

When a Victorian registered car, motor cycle, truck or trailer has been sold, given as a gift or otherwise disposed of, and will be garaged in Victoria, VicRoads must be informed. The buyer must submit a vehicle registration transfer form to VicRoads within 14 days of taking possession of the vehicle. You can still transfer registration up to 3 months after it expires. After this time the registration will be cancelled.
