Transfer of vehicle registration between Licensed Motor Car Traders do not require a Certificate of Roadworthiness. However, a completed and signed Vehicle Registration Transfer form and the payment of the transfer fee are required.
Where a person buys a vehicle from a Licensed Motor Car Trader a completed Vehicle Registration Transfer form (both the seller and buyer portions must be completed and signed), transfer fee and motor vehicle duty paid, and a current Certificate of Roadworthiness must be lodged by the Licensed Motor Car Trader with VicRoads within fourteen days.
When transferring a light trailer (4.5 tonnes GVM or less), payment of motor vehicle duty, and the supply of a Certificate of Roadworthiness are not required. However, a signed Vehicle Registration Transfer form and payment of the transfer fee are still required to be forwarded to VicRoads within fourteen days,
When transferring a heavy trailer (above 4.5 tonnes GVM), a completed and signed Vehicle Registration Transfer form, supply of a Certificate of Roadworthiness, and the payment of transfer fee and motor vehicle duty are required to be forwarded to VicRoads within fourteen days.
