Registering primary producer vehicles

VicRoads offers reduced registration for primary producer vehicles.

Who is a primary producer?
You are a primary producer if you are a person who is:

  • engaged solely or substantially in agricultural, horticultural, viticultural, dairying, pastoral or other like pursuits
  • a commercial fisherman holding a licence to take fish for sale.


Which types of vehicles can be registered at the primary producer rate?
All vehicles registered as a primary producer vehicle must be used solely in connection with the operator's business as a primary producer.

Eligible vehicles include:

  • Vehicles must be constructed for carrying a load, be a prime mover, a tractor, a vehicle with an engine used to drive or operate an agricultural implement, or a vehicle constructed for agricultural purposes or an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV).
  • Vehicles with body types such as station wagons, wagons, utility and panel vans, that are fitted with no more than six (6) seats and have a goods carrying capability.

 
Motorcycles are not eligible for primary producer registration.

How to apply
To apply to have your vehicle registered at the primary producer rate complete the Registration concession form [PDF, 23KB] and return it to VicRoads. The Registration concession form can be printed out as a PDF or you can pick it up at your nearest VicRoads Customer Service Centre.
