If you are using a bike rack on your vehicle you need to ensure that the registration number of your vehicle is clearly visible at all times.
Bike rack number plates are available for this purpose. These plates display the same plate number as your vehicle but are smaller than standard registration plates (252 x 96 mm).
The bike rack plate number must be a vehicle registration number recorded on VicRoads database.
Bike rack plates must be visible from a distance of 20 metres. If you are using a bike rack at night, a number plate lamp must be fitted and illuminated.
A protective soft trim surround is also available.

There are no fee concessions available on bike rack plates.
Bike rack plates can be ordered by:
- calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 (Mon-Fri 8.30am - 5.00pm, Sat 8.30am - 2.00pm). You can pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard); OR
- visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. You can pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card.
