The level crossings at Mitcham Road and Rooks Road in Mitcham will be eliminated by late 2014, with the State Government committing $350 million for rail crossing removal projects across Melbourne.
Proposed works will involve lowering the Belgrave/Lilydale rail line to remove traffic conflicts and ease congestion. As part of the project a new premium station will be built at Mitcham, manned from first to last train.
- rail lines to run beneath Mitcham and Rooks Roads
- Mitcham station platforms lowered with access by ramps and stairs
- integrated public transport links including a new bus interchange
- new bicycle storage facilities
- reduced traffic delays and congestion for drivers
- safer conditions for road users, pedestrians and cyclists
- better connections for rail and bus patrons
- improved road network efficiency
- supports local business and the economy
We will work closely with local businesses and the community to keep people informed of works progress and potential impacts. Information updates will be provided through VicRoads website. You can also join our project mailing list for updates.
