The Hume Highway Access Restoration project proposes to upgrade the Hume Highway to freeway-standard between Kalkallo and Beveridge by removing the existing local road intersections and direct access onto the highway from properties.
Planning to reserve the land for the future upgrade has reached a major milestone, with the State Government recently approving Planning Scheme Amendments for the upgrade.
The Minister for Planning has approved amendments to the Hume (C90) and Mitchell (C47) Planning Schemes that apply reservations for future access roads and connections. These roads will restore local access to landowners once the highway is upgraded.
No timeframe or funding has been announced for the upgrade of the highway to freeway standard.
