Thompson Road between Dandenong-Frankston Road, in Carrum Downs and South Gippsland Highway, in Cranbourne is an important east-west link for residents and businesses.
Population growth and development is leading to an increase in local and through traffic in the area.
Investigation and planning has been undertaken into the development of Thompson Road to ensure that ongoing needs of the local community, commuters and transport operators will be met.
VicRoads is awaiting a recommendation report regarding the Amendments C136, C115 and C76 to the Casey, Dandenong and Frankston Planning Schemes respectively, from Planning Panels Victoria following the Panel Hearing. This will be communicated on this page this month when it becomes available.
Planning
Investigations have been undertaken to ensure sufficient land is reserved to accommodate a possible future upgrade of Thompson Road. Predicted traffic volumes, road safety standards and environmental requirements were taken into account, as well as consultation with the community.
VicRoads has prepared Amendments C136, C115 and C76 to the Casey, Dandenong and Frankston Planning Schemes respectively in accordance with section 9(1) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
The amendments propose to introduce a Public Acquisition Overlay (PAO1) for additional land required for the proposed future upgrade and duplication of Thompson Road.
The land affected by the amendments is generally north of Thompson Road between Dandenong-Frankston Road and Western Port Highway, and north and south of Thompson Road between Western Port Highway and the Cranbourne rail line.
Interested parties were given the opportunity to view the proposed amendments on the Department of Planning and Community Development website. Any person who may be affected by the amendments had the opportunity to make a submission to the planning authority (VicRoads). The submission period was a month and closed on Wednesday 30 November 2011.
Submissions which seek to change the amendments and are not accepted by the planning authority are referred to an independent Panel appointed by the Minister under Part 8 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
The Directions Hearing was held on 23 January 2012 and the Panel Hearing was held on the week of 27 February 2012. Submitters who requested to present at the hearings had the opportunity to do so as arranged by the Department of Planning and Community Development.
