Planning for Kilmore-Wallan Bypass

Early in 2011 the Victorian Coalition Government announced its commitment for the construction of a bypass of Kilmore and Wallan by 2017.

VicRoads has begun planning investigations for such a bypass.

The planning investigations currently underway are initially focusing on a broad study area between Kilmore and the Hume Freeway. As at December, 2011 an area to the west of Kilmore has also been included.

Within this area, VicRoads will identify what and where are the best opportunities that merit further investigations as potential route corridors for a bypass of Kilmore and Wallan.

Additional development will then be required to refine these corridors into a small number of alignments, which will then undergo detailed planning so we can determine the most appropriate route for the option.

The current planning investigations also take into account preliminary studies previously carried out by VicRoads in 2007, which looked at a number of potential bypass options.

VicRoads’ priority is to complete all planning activities by 2014 to ensure traffic is able to use the bypass by 2017.

This current planning signifies an important initiative for the area. Consultation with the communities of Kilmore and Wallan will form a vital part of the planning process. Community members will be given the opportunity to provide comment to inform final outcomes.

Community Consultation Group
To assist VicRoads with the planning for a bypass, a Community Consultation Group (CCG) has been established (September, 2011).

The CCG will be independently chaired and will act in an advisory capacity to help VicRoads determine a suitable route and gain the necessary planning approvals for a bypass of Kilmore and Wallan.

The CCG will inform VicRoads and the Steering Committee of community views, perspectives and issues, and provide opportunities for members to voice suggestions during the course of the planning study.
