Upgrading 1.5 km of the Princes Highway at Traralgon East between Traralgon-Maffra Road and Stammers Road was completed in January 2011 with new highway lanes, roundabouts and traffic signals now operating.

- two lanes each way with a raised central median
- roundabouts at the Rocla Road and Stammers Road intersections
- traffic signals and turning lanes at Traralgon-Maffra Road and Eastern Road/McNairn Road intersections
- changes to a number of the service road entry/exit points.
- safer access to adjacent businesses and properties
- improved safety for local and through traffic
Regular construction updates, website updates and newspaper advertising were used to keep the local community and stakeholders informed.
VicRoads worked with the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Latrobe City Council to ensure environmental aspects of the Traralgon East stage were managed effectively. A Project Environmental Protection Strategy was implemented as part of the works.
