If you are in the market to buy a car, the Used Car Safety Ratings (UCSR) are a reliable source of information on a used car's safety performance. The UCSR were developed by MUARC and use the actual records of overĀ 3 million crashes on Australian roads to rate cars according to their on-road crash performance and how well they protect drivers in a crash. VicRoads recommends that car buyers purchase cars that offer 'better than average' protection as a minimum.
A full report discussing the ratings in detail, as well as the methodology used, can be found at: www.general.monash.edu.au/muarc/
