As a result of concerns associated with the design and construction of some local area treatments, the Truck Operations Committee (convened by VicRoads) initiated a brochure to highlight design aspects to be considered when designing traffic management devices used on local roads.
Local roads should be designed to ensure safe and convenient passage of larger vehicles, which need to be in a local area. Service trucks, furniture vans and emergency vehicles have legitimate reasons for entering a local area.
The brochure is a readily accessible summary of information in VicRoads 'Trucks on Roads Design Guide', which has been distributed to all municipalities. The brochure is designed primarily to assist planners, designers and constructors of local roads, particularly those roads containing traffic management devices.
