The Boundary Road Duplication Project was a $6.8 million project funded by the State Government. The works involved duplicating 1.4 km of the existing road to provide two lanes in each direction between Fitzgerald Road and the roundabout at Raymond Road in Laverton North.
The Boundary Road Duplication Project provides the following features:
- duplication from Fitzgerald Road to Raymond Road, Laverton North
- construction of a new eastbound carriageway to upgrade to 4 lane divided road
- modification to the Fitzgerald Road and Raymond Road roundabouts
- traffic lights at Hume Road
- median breaks at Hume Road and Cambridge Street
- street lighting at Hume Road and Cambridge Street
- shared user path on the south side of Boundary Road
- water sensitive urban road design

The Boundary Road Duplication Project provides the following benefits:
- improved safety, reduced traffic congestion and minimised environmental impacts from road freight vehicles.
- provision for high-standard freight infrastructure in the vicinity of the Western Ring Road interchange
- provision for efficient movement of freight ,essential for the ongoing economic prosperity of Victoria
- a boost for freight operators who regularly utilise the road network to transport goods around Melbourne and beyond.
The project was officially opened on 13 December 2007 by the Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas and the Member for Altona, Lynne Kosky.
