Features

Cranbourne-Frankston Road is an important traffic route in the Frankston area. Cranbourne-Frankston Road was duplicated between Warrandyte Road and Centre Road to provide two lanes in each direction.

Three additional sets of traffic signals have been installed along Cranbourne-Frankston Road at:

  • The Quarry Road/Northgateway intersection
  • The Centre Road/Potts Road intersection
  • The Josephine Street intersection

Separate bicycle lanes, which are a combination of on-road and behind the kerb lanes, will provide a high level of safety for cyclists. Indented bus stops have been provided to improve efficiency and traffic flow.

What are the benefits of this project?
The Cranbourne-Frankston Road duplication will:

  • Improved traffic flow and reduced delays
  • Improved safety for road users
  • Improved access to local facilities
  • Providing cyclists with safer facilities.

Managing the environment
VicRoads has ensured that the environmental aspects of the project have been managed effectively. An environmental management plan was developed and VicRoads worked with the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and Council to ensure that environment protection requirements, including the protection of native vegetation, were met.

Landscaping

Early planting of vegetation was undertaken to maximise growth and improve the visual amenity of the area prior to the road opening.

In consultation with Frankston City Council, vegetation removal within the VicRoads road reserve has been undertaken. Seeds were collected from the trees prior to removal and have been used to grow new plants. Many of these were planted within the road reserve in July 2006.

Additional planting of native species of trees, shrubs and grasses was conducted in July 2006 within the road reserve and the Council tree reserve on the south side of Cranbourne-Frankston Road.

Further landscaping works will be completed in Spring 2007.

Involving the community
VicRoads appreciates the feedback it receives from local residents, businesses, schools and community groups regarding the project and encourages this feedback. Members of the community are invited to visit the project office at 40 Belgrave-Hallam Road, Hallam to discuss project matters and view development plans.

A Community Liaison Group (CLG) for the project was established in early 2005 and met monthly for the duration of the project. The CLG provided a forum for open and consistent communication with local residents and businesses, Frankston City Council and Frankston Police.
