The upgrade to the Greensborough Bypass included the following features:
Construction of a second bridge over the Plenty River.
Widening of the existing outbound lanes to include an emergency stopping lane between Plenty River and the Diamond Creek Road roundabout, and extension of the three outbound lanes approaching Diamond Creek Road roundabout.
Construction of left-turn lanes with traffic lights from the Metropolitan Ring Road onto Greensborough Bypass.
Extension of the citybound right-turn lanes on the Greensborough Bypass onto the Metropolitan Ring Road to address congestion and traffic delays.
Construction of an off-road path for pedestrians and cyclists for the full length of the works, including a crossing at Plenty River. The 1.9km path linked the existing path with Diamond Creek Road. It also continued along the north side and connected with the existing path opposite Macorna Street, along the Metropolitan Ring Road.
The Greensborough Bypass Upgrade Project:
- Significantly improved safety for road users and relieved traffic congestion along the bypass;
- Improved an important link in the principal transport network between the Metropolitan Ring Road and Melbourne's north eastern suburbs;
- Reduced travel time for freight and local transport;
- Further enhanced residential and business development opportunities in the surrounding area; and
- Improved access to recreational facilities (bicycle and pedestrian paths) and parkland areas in the corridor.

The previous three lane reversible flow operation (shown above), where the road over the bridge carries two lanes of traffic in the peak direction during peak hour periods, was removed.
VicRoads kept the community informed of progress on the project via letterdrops, newspaper advertisements and website updates.
