More Information
Macedon Street is a major road within Sunbury, and provides the only bridge crossing of the Melbourne-Bendigo rail line within the town. Following completion of the project a continuous four lane facility is available for motorists, reducing congestion and improving safety.
The new bridge and road has been built on the southern (town) side of the existing road. The new bridge is built as an entirely new structure and is not connected to the Heritage Victoria protected bluestone bridge. It is a modern and contemporary design, built slightly higher and wider than the existing historic bridge. The new bridge incorporates a pedestrian footpath on the southern side. On-road bicycle lanes are also provided for travel in both directions.
