Significant arterial road and freeway improvement projects underway or planned in Melbourne's eastern suburbs include:
A $32 million State Government funded project to widen Ferntree Gully Road and provide three lanes in each direction between Jells Road and Stud Road.
Construction start: early 2008 Completion: late 2009
Length of works: 4.5km
The $24.5 million South Road Extension opened to traffic in September 2007. The project extended South Road from Warrigal Road to Old Dandenong Road. Associated works are currently underway in the City of Kingston including intersection upgrades at Old Dandenong Road and Kingston Road, and traffic flow improvements on White Street Mordialloc.
Construction start: late 2006 Completion: early 2009
A $33 million State Government funded project to assist bus services between Rowville and Caulfield. Wellington Road between Springvale Road and Stud Road is being widened to provide three lanes in each direction. Bus stops along the route are being upgraded with exclusive bus lanes at major intersections to assist bus priority.
The project is being delivered in partnership between VicRoads and the Department of Transport.
Construction start: early 2006 Completion: mid 2008
The Yarra Glen Truck Bypass Project is a $15 million road link bypassing the town centre between Healesville-Yarra Glen Road and Old Healesville Road, and connecting to the Melba Highway. It will provide an alternative route for trucks and through traffic, and includes intersection improvements at various locations.
Construction start: mid 2009 Completion: late 2010
