VicRoads manages planning and construction major road infrastructure projects across Victoria. Projects detailed in this section are:
The Victorian Minister for Roads and Ports announced in December 2007, that agreement in principal had been reached between the Campaspe and Murray Shires and the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation (YYNAC), for detailed investigations into a new corridor for a second Murray River crossing at Echuca-Moama.
North East Link
A new road connection is being investigated between the Metropolitan Ring Road in Greensborough and the Eastern Freeway in Bulleen. Often referred to as the ‘missing link’ – this proposed project will effectively complete Melbourne’s orbital freeway network, linking growth areas in the north, south-east and west.

The Freight Linkages Study was undertaken by VicRoads, with a Steering Group comprising senior representatives from Geelong Port P/L, the City of Greater Geelong, the former Department of Infrastructure and the Freight Industry formed to oversee the study. Consultants GHD and Meyrick were engaged to assist with this task.
The Nagambie Planning Study and Assessment Report discusses the issues and options to develop a 17 km duplicated stretch of the Goulburn Valley Highway at Nagambie.
The aim of the Outer Metropolitan Ring (OMR) / E6 Transport Corridor Planning Study is to identify the long term need and demand for a transport corridor that could link Werribee, Melton, Tullamarine and Craigieburn/Mickleham.
Following extensive investigations and community consultation, the Victorian Government has determined that the final alignment for the Princes Freeway – Traralgon Bypass.
VicRoads is doing a planning study for the duplication of the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale.
The planning study to determine the alignment for the future Goulburn Valley Highway
bypass of Shepparton.
The boundaries for the deviation have now been finalised and were incorporated into the Local Planning Scheme in late 2006.
The Victorian Government will implement a two-stage truck action plan to significantly reduce the number of trucks using residential streets in Melbourne’s inner west.
The first stage of the Truck Action Plan involves the construction of new ramps connecting the West Gate Freeway and Hyde Street, enhancing connectivity to the Port of Melbourne. These ramps will face west to reduce pressure on the West Gate Bridge. Hyde and Whitehall Streets will be upgraded and Shepherd Bridge strengthened to ensure appropriate access for heavy vehicles.
Werribee Street is located on the western fringe of the Werribee Township, approximately 31 kilometres south-west of Melbourne’s CBD on the Werribee River.
The aim was to find short, medium and long term options for reducing congestion and increasing safety along Cottrell Street and Werribee Street, near the Melbourne-Geelong railway and Werribee River crossings.
A new road connection is being investigated between Footscray West and the Port of Melbourne precinct. This will provide a second major river crossing and an alternative to the West Gate Bridge.
Detailed planning – including a full feasibility assessment and community consultation – is still required to determine a final route and alignment. At this early stage it is anticipated the new link will run under Footscray. All route and alignment options will be considered, including the appropriate location of entry and exit points.
