Werribee Street is located on the western fringe of the Werribee Township, approximately 31 kilometres south-west of Melbourne’s CBD on the Werribee River.
Werribee Street is an important transport link for the City of Wyndham. It crosses the Werribee River and the Melbourne–Geelong railway line.
Our aim was to find short, medium and long term options for reducing congestion and increasing safety along Cottrell Street and Werribee Street, near the Melbourne-Geelong railway and Werribee River crossings.
Improvement options were needed for:
- Supporting growth area planning in Wyndham.
- Managing traffic congestion.
- Supporting Werribee as a principle activity centre and transit city.
- Connecting communities with public transport.
- Improving accessibility to activity centres.
- Reducing demands for short trips on the Princes Freeway.
Based on analysis and community input it was determined that a broad network solution is needed to fix current issues and allow for future growth. Key recommendations include:
- Intersection improvements next to the railway line (funding of $1.6million has been announced).
- Heaths Road and Bolton Road duplication, Ballan Road to Tarneit Road (short term).
- Construction of the McGrath Road link (short term).
- Armstrong Road – define and reserve land for a four-lane divided road (short term) and construction of first carriageway (medium to long term).
- Duncans Road – construction of westerly ramps (medium to long term with protection of the appropriate land requirements in the short term).
