Regional Victoria Projects

VicRoads manages planning and construction major road infrastructure projects across Victoria. Projects detailed in this section are:

Barwon Heads Bridge Submission
VicRoads has submitted a revised proposal for the Barwon Heads Bridge to Heritage Victoria.     The new proposal features a separate pedestrian crossing alongside the road bridge which will be reconstructed and adapted.

Breakwater Road Upgrade
VicRoads is proposing to realign Breakwater Road to provide a new bridge connection across the Barwon River to improve east - west traffic flows in Geelong and replace the existing Barwon River bridge crossing which is flood prone and height restricted beneath the Geelong - Warrnambool rail line bridge.

Calder Highway - Melbourne to Bendigo
The Victorian and Australian Government's have committed to share the cost of upgrading the Calder Highway to a high standard four lane divided facility between Melbourne and Bendigo. For more information view Calder Corridor.

Echuca-Moama Bridge Planning Study
The Victorian Minister for Roads and Ports announced in December 2007, that agreement in principal had been reached between the Campaspe and Murray Shires and the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation (YYNAC), for detailed investigations into a new corridor for a second Murray River crossing at Echuca-Moama.

Geelong Ring Road
The Geelong Ring Road is being constructed as a freeway-standard road extending 23 kilometres along Geelong's western outskirts from the Princes Freeway, Corio to the Princes Highway, Waurn Ponds. Drivers using the Ring Road between Corio and Waurn Ponds will avoid up to 29 sets of traffic lights, with a travel time of less than 15 minutes compared with the current 25 - 60 minute trip through Geelong.

Goulburn Valley Highway - Arcadia duplication
The Arcadia Duplication project involves the duplication of the existing Goulburn Valley Highway on the west side, just north of Murchison-Violet Town Road to north of Ross Road, linking the northern limit of the Murchison East Deviation and the southern limit of the proposed Shepparton Bypass.

Goulburn Valley Highway - Nagambie Bypass
The Nagambie Planning Study and Assessment Report discusses the issues and options for the development of 16 km length of duplication of the Goulburn Valley Highway at Nagambie.

Goulburn Valley Highway - Shepparton Bypass
Shepparton Bypass is the best long term solution to

  • cater for long term traffic growth
  • address major deficiencies required to meet National Highway System objectives
  • improve the level of service for commercial traffic in the region
  • improve safety and accessibility for both local and through traffic
  • provide relief for congested intersections in the city centre
  • reduce accidents, particularly those involving trucks
  • provide certainty for future land use development
  • improve the amenity of the urban centres of Shepparton and Mooroopna

Goulburn Valley Highway - Strathmerton Deviation
This project is not scheduled for construction for a number of years. The alignment of the Strathmerton Deviation will:

  • eliminate the current indirect route for traffic movements west of Strathmerton and Tocumwal along the Goulburn Valley Highway;
  • save 9km of travel compared with the current route; and
  • enhance safety by eliminating a number of curves and narrow bridges approaching the Murray River near the border with NSW

Macedon Street Duplication - Sunbury

The Macedon Street duplication project, is a $4.2 million project funded by the State Government. The project includes the duplication of Sunbury Road (Macedon Street) between Horne Street and Evans Street, including a new bridge over the Melbourne-Bendigo rail line.

Completed Projects
