The Adopt -A - Roadside program provides an avenue for individuals, organisations, or businesses to help maintain sections of roadside within Victoria's arterial road network. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of cleaner roadsides, participants can help prevent potential pollutants from entering waterways, or improve the quality of remnant vegetation.
Many groups elect to carry out litter collection on sections of roadside approaching their home towns however other programs such as weed control, planting of trees and shrubs, and removal of graffiti may also be undertaken.
The Adopt -A - Roadside Program provides great opportunity for groups to demonstrate civic responsibility, community pride, as well as increasing camaradie within organisations.
Roadside courtesy signs provide a sense of ownership for groups as well as providing prominent recognition for its participants.
Individuals, organisations, service clubs, and businesses can can adopt sections of arterial roads including highways and tourist roads in rural environments. Requests to adopt roadsides in urban areas may be considered under certain circumstances.
The Keep Australia Beautiful Council (ViC) Inc (KABV) manage the day to day operation of the program for VicRoads on a State wide basis. The Groups liaise with the KABV Program Manager on any matter regarding Adopt -A - Roadside including adoptable areas, permit conditions and all safety related matters.
