Kilmore and Wallan are growing fast and that means more traffic on our roads.
Improving local and arterial road links is the best way to cater for the growing number of cars, motorbikes and trucks.
VicRoads carried out a study into 11 bypass options and found most traffic using this part of the Northern Highway is local traffic or has business in either Kilmore or Wallan.
The study, validated by an Independent Review, found that a bypass will not address the problem of increasing traffic in Wallan and Kilmore and that duplication of the Northern Highway, from the Hume Freeway to the southern entrance of Kilmore, is needed.
The findings of the Study and Independent Review can be found in the following links -
To ensure the future transport needs of the broader community continue to be met, VicRoads will be working closely with the Mitchell Shire and the local community to begin planning for the duplication of the Northern Highway and the development of local and arterial road network improvements, including linkage roads in and around Kilmore that have the potential to reduce traffic and heavy truck movements in central Kilmore.
