Works to upgrade the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale will commence at Traralgon East. A 1.5 km section of the highway between Traralgon-Maffra Road and Stammers Road will be reconstructed to incorporate a raised central median with associated intersection improvements.

Construction is expected to commence by late 2009 and be completed by late 2010.

Features 

• Two lanes each way with a raised central median
• Roundabouts proposed at Rocla Road and Stammers Road
• Intersections with traffic signals and dedicated turning lanes at Traralgon-Maffra Road and Eastern Road/McNairn Road.
• Changes to a number of the service road entry/exit points

• Improved safety for local and through traffic 
• Better and safer access to adjacent businesses and properties

Current progress and traffic impacts
Tenders have now closed with a works contract expected to be awarded in late 2009.

For the safety of drivers and workers, reduced speed limits may be required at times through work zones, with safety barriers in place and lane closures.

Road signs, website updates and letter-box drops will be used to advise motorists and the community of changed travel conditions. 

Access to local businesses will be maintained at all times.

Involving the community
A Community Information Session in May 2009 provided an opportunity to view concept plans and discuss plans with project staff. Community feedback was considered in finalising project plans and all community members who submitted enquiries have been responded to.

VicRoads will provide regular construction updates, website information and newspaper advertising to keep the local community and stakeholders aware of progress.

Managing the environment
VicRoads will work with contractors, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Latrobe City Council to ensure environmental aspects of the project are managed effectively. Environmental studies, including flora and fauna surveys have been completed and a Project Environmental Protection Strategy has been developed.
