South Eastern Suburbs Projects

Significant arterial road and freeway improvements planned, underway or recently completed in Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs include:

Cranbourne - Frankston Road duplication, Langwarrin
An $11.4 million State Government funded project extending the duplication of  Cranbourne-Frankston Road   between Centre Road and Western Port Highway at Langwarrin. 

Construction started: September 2007    Completed: December 2008
Length of works: 1.4km

Cranbourne - Frankston Road duplication, Cranbourne South
A $30 million State Government funded project extending the duplication of Cranbourne-Frankston Road  between Hall Road and Western Port Highway at Cranbourne South with a new roundabout at Pearcedale Road.

Construction start: January 2009    Completion: early 2010
Length of works: 3.5km

Dingley Arterial, Keysborough
A $74.6 million State Government funded project extending from Springvale Road to Perry Road in Keysborough to eliminate a missing link in the arterial road network between Westall Road and the Dandenong Bypass.

Construction start: 2010    Completion: 2013
Length of works: 3.5km

George Street Bridge, Dandenong 
The George Street Bridge Project will create a new gateway into central Dandenong, connecting people and businesses on either side of the rail line. George Street is being extended and linked with the realigned Cheltenham Road, by constructing a bridge over the railway line and Foster Street.


Construction start: mid 2009    Completion: late 2010

M1 Upgrade:  Monash - CityLink - West Gate 
A $1.39 billion project to improve traffic flow and safety along the Monash - CityLink - West Gate Freeway corridor including additional lanes, changes to enhance peak hour traffic flows on the West Gate Bridge, improved entry/exit ramps and implementation of an intelligent freeway management system.

Construction started: September 2007    Completion: in stages to late 2010


Morooduc Highway / Cranbourne Road, Frankston 

Intersection and access improvements at the Moorooduc Highway-Cranbourne Road, intersection at Frankston, to reduce congestion and improve safety.

Narre Warren - Cranbourne Road duplication, Narre Warren
A $7.4 million State Government funded project to duplication Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to provide two lanes in each direction between Centre Road and Pound Road in Narre Warren.
 
Construction start: July 2008    Completed: August 2009
Length of works:  1km

Pound Road upgrade, Dandenong South
A $36.8 State Government funded project to widen and upgrade Pound Road over the South Gippsland Freeway to the South Gippsland Highway, with associated intersection, signals and access ramp improvements.

Construction start: late 2009     Completion: mid 2011

Thompson Road duplication, Carrum Downs
A $30.5 million State Government funded project to upgrade Thompson Road in Carrum Downs. Works involve widening to provide two lanes in each direction east from the Mornington Peninsula Freeway to EastLink, and three lanes in each direction between EastLink and Dandenong-Frankston Road.

Construction start: June 2008    Completion: late 2009
Length of works: 4km

Thompson Road duplication, Cranbourne
A $22 million State Government funded project to widen Thompson Road in Cranbourne. Works involve widening the road to three lanes in each direction between South Gippsland Highway and Rosebank Drive and two lanes in each direction between Rosebank Drive and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
 
Construction start: July 2008    Completed: June 2009
Length of works: 1.7km

Western Port Highway duplication, Langwarrin
A $36.8 million State Government funded project to extend the Western Port Highway duplication from the Cranbourne-Frankston Road to North Road at Langwarrin. Works involved widening and reconstruction - providing two lanes in each direction separated by a central median.

Construction start: late 2007    Completed: June 2009
Length of works: 4.2km
