VicRoads is making changes to the intersection of Moorooduc Highway and Cranbourne Road, Frankston to reduce congestion at this busy intersection.
This location is known for its long delays, as up to 50,000 vehicles each day use it to get on and off the Frankston Freeway.
The future construction of Peninsula Link is likely to address the issues at this intersection; however a short-term, cost effective solution has been developed.
From the night of Friday 21 August, unless delayed due to weather, you will not be able to turn right from Moorooduc Highway towards Langwarrin and Cranbourne.
Drivers coming from the south wanting to head along Cranbourne Road towards Langwarrin will instead turn left at the intersection (towards Frankston), and proceed to new traffic signals near Clarendon Street where a U-turn bay will be provided on the left hand side of the road.
The U-turn movement at these traffic signals will be a hook turn, taken from the far left-hand lane. Drivers will then be able to continue along Cranbourne Road towards Langwarrin.
- Provide more green time for those coming off the Frankston Freeway onto Moorooduc Highway.
- Assist traffic flow along the Moorooduc Highway and Frankston Freeway.
- This treatment provides a short-term, cost effective solution to Frankston Freeway congestion.
- The future construction of Peninsula Link is likely to address the issues at this intersection.

In February 2009, Minister for Roads and Ports, Mr Tim Pallas attended the Moorooduc Highway / Cranbourne Road site and announced the P-turn project with Frankston MP Alistair Harkness.
The project was planned and developed in consultation with Council and the local community. VicRoads consultation included letter drops to the local residents, local paper advertising, media releases, website updates and the distribution of a fact sheet on the upcoming project to universities, schools, hospitals, sporting facilities and shopping centres – as well as many other areas.
