Significant arterial road and freeway improvements underway or planned in Melbourne's Western suburbs include:
The $331 million Deer Park Bypass will provide a 9.3km freeway-standard connection between the the Western Ring Road at Sunshine West and the Western Freeway at Caroline Springs. The Bypass is jointly funded by the State and Australian Governments.

The Western Freeway-Leakes Road intersection at Rockbank will be eliminated in conjunction Bypass works with a new diamond interchange under construction.

A $14.7 million State Government funded project to duplicate Derrimut Road providing two lanes in each direction between Hogans Road and Sayers Road.

A $19.7million State Government funded project to duplicate Kings Road, providing two lanes in each direction between Taylors Road and the Melton Highway .

A $48.5 million State Government funded project to duplicate 2.1 km section of Kororoit Creek Road between Grieve Parade and Millers Road, Altona.
This project will remove the existing railway level crossing and a new bridge will carry Kororoit Creek Road over the rail line.

A $26.9 million State Government funded project to construct Palmers Road as a new two lane undivided road from Dunnings Road Point Cook to the Princes Freeway, with a new interchange providing direct freeway access to and from Melbourne.
Construction commenced: July 2006 Completion date: May 2008
Length of works: 1.8 km
Point Cook Road/Dunnings Road intersection is a $1.3 million State Government funded project with significant contributions of $400,000 from Wyndham Council and $150,000 from Hobsons Bay Council. This upgrade will improve the Point Cook Road/Dunnings Road intersection and will allow safer movement of traffic following the opening of the new Palmers Road extension.

Taylors Road is a $54 million State Government funded project to separate road and rail traffic by replacing the existing roundabout with a road underpass of the Sydenham Rail line.
