There are many road rules, standards and regulations which apply to road users in Victoria and under which VicRoads operates.

All road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, should be aware of Victoria’s road rules, whether visiting the State or living here permanently.

The Road Management Act aims to promote a safe and efficient public road network and affects the community, Local and State government authorities, utilities and individuals working in road reserves.

All vehicles registered in Victoria require a Certificate of Roadworthiness when a vehicle is sold or if a used vehicle is to be re-registered.

Standards for vehicles in Victoria are used to ensure all vehicles meet minimum safety requirements, while road and traffic design standards include VicRoads requirements for bridges, freeway service centres and road design guidelines.
