The mass and dimension limits for buses (up to 12.5 metres long) with general access to the Victorian road network are described in Chapter 4 while the dimension limits for larger "controlled access buses" (exceeding 12.5 metres and up to 14.5 metres long) are described in Part 4 of Schedule 8 to the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009. *
A complying bus, that meets certain seat belt, rollover protection and emergency exit standards, may operate up to 6.5 tonnes on the steer axle. The definition of a complying bus is described in the Victoria Government Gazette - Special No. S226 - 30 June 2009.
