Community involvement in local road safety programs can make substantial contribution to making our roads safer.

Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program
The Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program seeks to increase the participation of local communities in addressing local road safety issues.

VicRoads will have responsibility for overall co-ordination of the Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program. The program model includes two key parts: the Victorian Community Road Safety Alliance and Local Community Road Safety Groups.

Victorian Community Road Safety Alliance
The alliance is an advisory body to VicRoads and has the role of developing strategic partnerships to support and build capacity for communities to contribute to addressing local road safety issues.  The alliance membership includes community members and representatives from Victorian Government agencies, local government and organisations which have an interest in road safety.  VicRoads is represented on the alliance and undertakes secretarial and administrative support.  VicRoads has appointed David Healy as the independent Chairperson.  David has over 30 years experience in road safety.

Expression of Interest - Victorian Community Road Safety Alliance
VicRoads Chief Executive Gary Liddle is calling for expressions of interest from community members from within the VicRoads South Western and Western regional areas who wish to contribute to initiatives that will enhance road safety in Victoria.

Local Community Road Safety Groups
A registered Local Community Road Safety Group will be responsible for a geographical area determined by the local stakeholders and community. Groups will need to register to be involved in the partnership. Local Community Road Safety Groups will:

  • identify local road safety needs and priorities
  • develop effective local road safety programs
  • establish and maintain local road safety partnerships
  • attract funds and resources
  • budget and allocate resources for local programs and activities.

    Aim and objectives
The aim of the Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program is to increase the engagement and breadth of involvement of the Victorian community in addressing road safety issues.

The objectives of the Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program are to:

    • support the Victorian Government to meet its road safety targets
    • increase the engagement and opportunity for local communities and stakeholders to become involved in effectively addressing road safety needs and issues.

If you have an interest in road safety and would like to contribute to the development and delivery of effective, local road safety programs, please phone 131171 and ask for your closest VicRoads regional office.
