We want to make it easy to find truck stops or rest areas throughout Victoria, so you can fight driver fatigue by taking regular rest breaks.

Driver fatigue is the most common cause of road crashes involving heavy vehicles. We’re helping drivers to manage their fatigue on the roads. In conjunction with the Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council, we’ve made this useful information bulletin:

This bulletin shows both public and commercial truck stops and rest areas in Melbourne and Geelong. It lets you know what types of facilities and services are available at the locations and makes it clear which ones can accommodate B-doubles and over-dimensional loads.  

Rest areas in Victoria are extremely important. They give you the chance to take a break or get in a nap before your driving is affected by fatigue. The rest areas will have a range of amenities such as toilets, food and driver information. 

You can use this interactive map to find heavy and light vehicle rest areas, freeway service centres and weighbridges on major roads in Victoria. 

We’ve created a Victorian rest area strategy, which takes a wide-ranging view of improving the different features at rest areas. 

The strategy will involve improving existing rest areas, creating new rest areas, promoting in-town facilities and encouraging you to plan out the rest areas on your trip before you set out. We’ll be working with the freight industry, local councils and other stakeholders to make better rest facilities across the state.
