Licensed Vehicle Tester refresher course

If you’re a Licensed Vehicle Tester (LVT) accredited before 1 April 2013, you’ll need to update your skills and knowledge by completing a one-day refresher course by 30 November 2017.

Licensed Vehicle Tester refresher course

What will the course cover?

The one-day course will cover:

  • updated guidance on how to provide consistent roadworthy testing to ensure all Victorian light vehicles meet appropriate safety standards
  • updates on the changes to roadworthy testing requirements, legislation and vehicle inspection standards
  • the current audit requirements, common roadworthy testing issues, and how to appropriately respond and follow-up customer complaints
  • the key competencies required to issue roadworthy certificates including administration, mechanical skills and vehicle modifications

Do I need to do the refresher course?

If you’re a Light Vehicle (LV) Roadworthy Tester Examining Mechanic accredited before 1 April 2013 you must do the refresher course in order to retain your status.

Licence holders must make sure that all accredited Roadworthy Tester Examining Mechanics on their licence complete the refresher training by 30 November 2017.

If you were accredited after 1 April 2013, you completed the formal five-day training course and do not need to do the refresher course.

How do I book to attend this course?

From 1 November 2015, the one-day refresher course will be offered in selected locations across Victoria by Federation University (External link) until 30 November 2017.

Information including course dates, locations, contacts and booking details, as well as the cost of the course, can currently be found on the Federation University website with other providers to become available in early 2016.

What happens if I don’t pass the refresher course?

If you don’t pass the assessment at the conclusion of refresher course you will be able to sit the test a second time as arranged  by the course provider.

If you do not successfully complete the course before 30 November 2017 your accreditation will be revoked. This means you will not be able to continue issuing roadworthy certificates and will need to undertake further training.
